Senior fast bowler Mohammed Shami has dismissed speculation regarding his retirement from Test cricket ahead of India’s highly anticipated tour of England. The 34-year-old reaffirmed his commitment to the national side ahead of the all-important five-Test series, which begins on 20 June.
The squad selection for the England tour, marking the start of India’s new World Test Championship cycle, has generated considerable buzz in recent days. The retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from the longest format have only added to the
intrigue surrounding the announcement, which is expected in the third week of May.
A media report had suggested that Mohammed Shami might follow Rohit and Kohli into Test retirement, and claimed that the senior selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, was reluctant to include the fast bowler in the squad for the upcoming series.
However, Shami strongly refuted the claims in a post on Instagram, dismissing the speculation as baseless. The pacer has not played Tests for India since the World Test Championship final in 2023.
