Jasprit Bumrah scripted history on Tuesday, becoming the first Indian bowler to take 100 wickets in Tests, ODIs and T20Is. The landmark arrived during the first T20I against South Africa in Cuttack, where the pacer struck with his first breakthrough of the night to complete his T20I century.
Bumrah is now only the fifth bowler in world cricket to reach 100 wickets in each of the three international formats, joining Tim Southee, Lasith Malinga, Shakib Al Hasan and Shaheen Shah Afridi. The 30-year-old reached the milestone when he dismissed Dewald Brevis for 22 in his third over, later removing Keshav Maharaj to round off a sharp spell. He has now taken 234 wickets in 52 Tests, 149 in 89 ODIs and 101 in 81 T20Is. Bumrah is also just the second Indian to reach 100 T20I wickets, closing in on Arshdeep Singh’s national record of 107.
Since making his
international debut in an ODI in Sydney on 23 January 2016, Bumrah has built a reputation for control, discipline and late-overs accuracy. He needed 81 matches and 78 innings to complete the T20I century, maintaining an average of 18.11 and an economy rate under seven, underlining his sustained excellence.
Arshdeep Singh remains India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is with 107 wickets, having reached the hundred earlier this year during the Asia Cup in his 64th match. Bumrah has now closed in on him, while Hardik Pandya sits on 99 wickets, followed by Yuzvendra Chahal with 96 and Bhuvneshwar Kumar with 90.
