Rajasthan Royals finally managed to end their chasing jinx as they beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 6 wickets in Match 62 of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) on Tuesday, May 20 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. After being put in to bat first, CSK posted 187/8 in their 20 overs. In reply, Rajasthan Royals chased down the target in 17.1 overs on the back of a splendid fifty from young batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi (57 off 33), who was well-supported by captain Sanju Samson (41 off 31).

Courtesy of their sensational performances, Rajasthan registered just their second win while chasing in ten matches of the season. They ended their campaign on a winning note, successfully bringing their three-match losing streak to an end. Following their win, Rajasthan finished the season in the ninth spot with four wins from 14 matches, having eight points to their name. On the other hand, CSK will most likely finish last for the first time ever in IPL history, having six points from 13 matches.

Rajasthan’s chase got off to a terrific start as Yashasvi Jaiswal once again came out all guns blazing. The southpaw got off the mark on the first delivery with a boundary down the leg side and took on Khaleel Ahmed in his third over, hitting him for three fours and a six to get 19 runs from his over. However, he failed to keep going and lost his stumps against Anshul Kamboj for 36 (19), leaving RR on 37/1.

His wicket brought captain Sanju Samson to the crease, who came out with good intent, determined to end his team’s chasing jinx. At the other end, 14-year-old Suryavanshi also got into the groove and played some gorgeous shots to get his innings going. After the end of the powerplay, he took on Noor

Ahmad, clobbering him for one six and two fours to move into the 20s.

The young batting star impressed Sunil Gavaskar and Ian Bishop in the commentary box, who were singing his plaudits for batting with maturity. Suryavanshi took calculated risks as he didn’t try to go bonkers on every ball and paced his innings to perfection.

He brought up his half-century off 27 balls courtesy of a six on a free-hit delivery by Noor Ahmad. Captain Sanju Samson made sure there was no respite for CSK bowlers as he continued to milk them for boundaries to bring the required run rate under 8. Their 98-run partnership off 59 balls was finally brought to an end as Ravichandran Ashwin got Samson (41 off 31) holed out at long on.

It seemed as if RR were once again making a mess of their chase as four balls later Suryavanshi (57 off 33) also managed to get a leading edge off Ashwin’s bowling and was caught at point. However, Shimron Hetmyer (31* off 12) and Dhruv Jurel (12* off 5) made sure there were no more hiccups in the chase.

Earlier in the day, after being put in to bat first, CSK were left reeling at 12/2 after first two overs as Yudhvir Singh dismissed Devon Conway (10 off 8) and Urvil Patel (0 off 2) within the space of three deliveries. After the early wickets, the CSK team management promoted Ravichandran Ashwin at number four, a move which were even slammed by Dale Steyn.

Ashwin was batting at number four for just the third time in his IPL career, but played a decent knock of 13 (8) as he hit a six and a boundary in his innings. He got involved in a 56-run partnership off 24 balls with Ayush Mhatre (43 off 20), who continued to impress with his belligerent strokeplay.
