Delhi Capitals captain David Warner was fined Rs. 12 Lakh for maintaining a slow-over rate during their seven-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday.

DC picked up their second win on the bounce in IPL 2023 in Hyderabad as the bowlers were right on the money for them. After winning the toss, Warner opted to bat first and the decision seemed to be a mistake at the beginning.

DC lost wickets early on and Washington Sundar delivered them with a big blow when he picked up the wickets of Warner, Sarfaraz Khan and Aman Khan in one over.

Manish Pandey and Axar Patel scored 34 runs each as DC ended up scoring 144 in their 20 overs.

The SRH chase had a good start with Mayank Agarwal leading the way, but they quickly started to lose wickets. Heinrich Klassen and Washington Sundar did keep them interested in the contest and the home side needed 13 runs in the

final over.

DC were penalized and could only keep four fielders out of the circle because of their slow-over rate as Mukesh Kumar came on to bowl. The Indian pacer kept his nerve and only conceded five off the final over as DC won the match.

However, the victory came at a cost as Warner was penalized for the slow-over rate and was fined Rs. 12 Lakh.

"Delhi Capitals captain David Warner has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium, Hyderabad."

"As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Warner was fined Rs. 12 lakh," read the statement on IPL's website.

Both teams will be squaring off once again on 29th April in Delhi.
