Mumbai: Indian cricket team captain Hardik Pandya have won the toss and decided to field first against Austrialia at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai today.

Hardik Pandya-led India will take on Steve Smith’s Australia in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. This is the first ODI series between India vs Australia since late 2020, when Australia won a three-game series 2-1

It’s an important series for Australia, with the 50-over World Cup to be held in India later this year. Steve Smith will captain the side for this series with regular ODI skipper Pat Cummins opting to remain home in Sydney with family following the passing of his mother, Maria, after her battle with breast cancer.

Hardik Pandya will captain India’s ODI side for the first time in the opening match,

with Rohit Sharma to skip the game for some family commitments. Rohit will be back to lead for the final two matches. India have also lost Shreyas Iyer for the series, with a recurring back issue that flared in the Ahmedabad Test.

Both teams are on a winning streak. Australia have won their past six ODIs, while India’s streak stretches to seven.

Teams:

INDIA: Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya (C), Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami.

AUSTRALIA: Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Steve Smith (C), Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis (WK), Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Sean Abbott, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa
