Shubman Gill, on Wednesday, broke Virat Kohli’s record of the highest individual score by an Indian batter in T20Is. The right-handed batter accomplished the feat in India’s third and final T20I against Mitchell Santner’s New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Earlier, Kohli set the record by scoring an unbeaten 122 against Mohammad Nabi’s Afghanistan in the Asia Cup match back in September 2022 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Kohli stayed at the top for around five months before being displaced by Gill. In the game against the Black Caps, Gill was at his very best as he scored an unbeaten 126 off 63 balls with 12 fours and seven sixes.

On the back of his knock, India posted a massive score of 234 for the loss of four wickets after

opting to bat first. Gill got to his half-century off 35 balls after which he stepped on the gas big time. The Young Turk got to his hundred off 54 balls and became the sixth Indian man to score a T20I hundred.

Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, KL Rahul, Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav are the other men to score hundreds in T20Is for the Men in Blue. Among women, Harmanpreet Kaur is the other batter to have a century when she got it in the 2018 T20 World Cup in the West Indies.

As far as Gill is concerned, he has been going through a dream run of late. After racking up his maiden double hundred in ODIs, the right-handed Gill showed the force he is in the shortest format of the game. Having also played a number of matches for the Gujarat Giants in the IPL, Gill knew the conditions well in Ahmedabad.
