The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called for a review of the U19 Asia Cup performance, Cricbuzz reported on Monday, December 22. The board has requested a report from the team management and is expected to meet captain Ayush Mhatre and coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar in the coming days.

The decision was reportedly made during the BCCI Apex Council meeting on Monday and comes after India’s disastrous performance in the tournament final. The Indian U19 team, which had been undefeated until the final, suffered a massive 191-run defeat against Pakistan.

Key players Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi failed to deliver on the day,

contributing to what turned out to be an off day for the entire Indian side. While performance reviews are standard after major tournaments, the BCCI’s decision to meet both the captain and the head coach is unusual.

Earlier this year, a similar approach was taken when the board held discussions with Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma following the senior team’s disappointing Border-Gavaskar Trophy campaign in Australia.

According to Cricbuzz, the BCCI’s proactive approach may be aimed at the upcoming U19 World Cup, scheduled for January–February 2026. The board appears keen to address any issues early and avoid setbacks in the global tournament.
