Rohit Sharma has confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah has been left out of the starting lineup for the first match in the series against South Africa on Wednesday.

Sharma said that Bumrah had a slight niggle in the morning and was rested for the match in Thiruvananthapuram.

After winning the toss, India elected field first. Speaking afterwards, as quoted by Cricbuzz, Sharma said that it was very important to continue the momentum they have from the Australia series in the format. He went on to say that the team had made four changes from their previous game.

With Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar rested for the series, Rishabh Pant and Arshdeep Singh came into the lineup for them. He went on to say that Deepak Chahr had replaced Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin had come in place of Yuzvendra Chahal.

"We are gonna bowl first. It was a good wicket when we played here last time. Bit of green covering but it's gonna be a good batting track. Very important to continue to do what you're doing and keep that momentum in this format. Very healthy atmosphere in the group and we also want

to make sure to tick all the boxes and so far we have been doing good and we just want to continue to do that. Hardik and Bhuvi are rested from the last series. Pant and Arshdeep come in for them. Bumrah and Chahal miss out. Deepak Chahar and Ashwin are back," said Sharma.

South Africa (Playing XI): Quinton de Kock(w), Temba Bavuma(c), Rilee Rossouw, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Wayne Parnell, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Anrich Nortje, Tabraiz Shamsi
