Frustrated with the delay caused by the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Cricket West Indies (CWI) has arranged commercial flights for members of the West Indies men’s team, who were stranded in India after the T20 World Cup. In an official press release, the board expressed frustration over delays in charter flight arrangements organised, and revealed that they were arranging flight back for players themselves.

In its third statement on the matter, CWI said the squad had remained in India for nine days after completing their campaign while waiting for a charter flight arranged by the ICC. The charter, which was meant to transport both the West Indies and South Africa teams, was repeatedly delayed.

According to CWI, travel and accommodation arrangements for participating teams during both men’s and women’s ICC World Cups are coordinated and managed by the ICC. However, the ongoing uncertainty around the charter flight, caused by

global tensions and aviation regulations, forced the board to step in and make alternative arrangements for the team.

“In the interest of the well-being and safety of its players and support staff, Cricket West Indies advised the ICC that it was no longer prudent to continue waiting on the charter arrangements, which remain uncertain,” the board said in its statement.

CWI added that multiple efforts had been made through the board, players and other partners, in coordination with the ICC, to secure commercial travel for the squad’s safe return home.

Some players and staff have already departed India, while the remaining members of the squad are scheduled to leave on Tuesday, March 10, and Wednesday, March 11.

The board also thanked fans and stakeholders for their patience during the situation and expressed appreciation for the support shown while efforts were made to resolve the travel issue.
