Jasprit Bumrah returned with a six-wicket haul to register the third best ODI figures for an India bowler in one-day internationals during the first match against England at The Oval on Tuesday. Stuart Binny had taken 6 for 4 against Bangladesh in 2014, while Anil Kumble grabbed six for 12 against West Indies in 1993. Four of the top-six of India's best ODI figures have come against England. Bumrah got India off to a sensational start when he dismissed Jason Roy and Joe Root for ducks in his first over before Mohammed Shami removed Ben Stokes for 0 in his second over.

England, the reigning ODI world champions, have a strong batting line-up which was bolstered with the return of Joe Root and Ben Stokes to the format. However, the hosts got off to a horror start after India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first. Jasprit Bumrah started the damage when he removed Jason Roy and Joe Root in his first over - a double-wicket maiden.

Joe Root has been in great form in Test cricket and his hundred in the second innings of

the Edgbaston Test was crucial to England's victory. Jason Roy is among the most dangerous shorter format batters - the two early wickets meant India had the upper hand. That position got stronger when Mohammed Shami removed Ben Stokes, the new England Test captain, for a duck in the third over of the innings.

Jasprit Bumrah picked his third wicket in his third over when Jonny Bairstow edged one to Rishabh Pant, who held on to a sensational catch behind the stumps. And in his next over, Bumrah struck another blow to remove Liam Livingstone, who also perished without scoring a run.

Jasprit Bumrah took five wickets in ODIs nearly 5 years ago against Sri Lanka. He has since taken several 5-wicket hauls in Test cricket but, in recent times, has struggled to break through in the powerplay. Bumrah then returned for his third spell of the match and castled Brydon Carse for 15 to complete his second five-wicket haul in ODIs.

However, Jasprit Bumrah has now underlined his status as India's premier pacer with sheer grit.
