The Indian Cricket Board has handed a mega Christmas bonus to women cricketers across the country. The BCCI, in its latest Apex Council meeting, has decided to introduce a substantial hike in match fees for women’s domestic cricketers, marking a major step forward for the women’s game.
The proposed changes were tabled on Monday, December 22 at the Apex Council Meeting. The women domestic players will now earn up to 2.5 times what they were making until now. This revision significantly improves the financial viability of pursuing cricket as a professional
career. Earlier, senior women players were paid a match fee of Rs 20,000 per day, which has now been increased to Rs 50,000 per day. This enhanced rate applies to players who are part of the playing XI.
However, it is not only players in the playing XIs who will benefit from the new structure. Squad members named as reserves will also see a significant rise in their match fees. The per diem for a senior reserve player has been increased to Rs 25,000 per day, up from the current Rs 10,000, ensuring better financial security for the wider squad.
