Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu got off to a fine start at the Badminton Asia Championships in Dubai after a series of disappointing results for India in the morning session on Wednesday, April 26. Sindhu defeated Wen Chi Hsu of Taiwan in the women's singles first round in straight games.

Sindhu, the 8th seed, did not allow Wen to get away in a tight-fought opening round. However, she broke the deadlock at 14-14 and raced ahead with 6 points on the trot. Sidhu converted and won 21-15 but Wen came up with a

better challenge in the second game, pushing the Indian to her limits.

However, 11th-ranked Sindhu held her nerves and converted the second match point to make sure she closed out the first-round in straight games against the World No. 17.

PV Sindhu will next face World No. 9 Han Yue of China in the second round of the prestigious competition.

Meanwhile, Kidambi Srikanth also eased into the second round of men's singles after beating World No. 27 Adnan Ebrahim 21-13, 21-8.
