KL Rahul, on Tuesday, September 20, became the fifth Indian batter to score 2000 runs in T20Is. The other batters to have reached the milestone are Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Harmanpreet Kaur, Mithali Raj and Smriti Mandhana.

Rahul accomplished the feat during India’s first T20I against Aaron Finch’s Australia at PCA Stadium in Mohali. Rahul also became the second fastest Indian man to get to 2000 T20I runs after Virat Kohli, who got to the feat in his 56th innings.

After the Aussies won the toss and put India in to bat first, Rahul started in an aggressive way. He got to his half-century off 32 balls despite India losing Rohit and Kohli in quick succession.

Rahul went on to score 55 runs off 35 balls with

the help of four fours and three sixes before fast bowler Josh Hazlewood accounted for his crucial scalp.

Rahul tried to take the aerial route, but hit the ball straight into the hands of Nathan Ellis, who took a relatively simple catch.

When Rahul got out, India’s score was 103 for the loss of three wickets in 11.5 overs. Earlier, Rahul had a torrid time while playing in the Asia Cup where he struggled against quality fast bowling. Barring the 62-run knock that he played against Afghanistan, Rahul looked in indifferent form.

In 62 matches thus far in his career, Rahul has scored 2018 runs at an average of 39.56 with two centuries to his name. He got the hundreds against the West Indies (2016) and England (2018).
