The Asian Athletics Championships 2025 kicked off at Gumi in South Korea today, with a 60-member Indian contingent participating in the mega event.
Key Indian athletes to watch include Jyothi Yarraji in 100m hurdles, Parul Chaudhary in 3000m steeplechase, and Abdulla Aboobacker in triple jump, all defending their Asian titles.
The squad also features top names like Avinash Sable who will feature in steeplechase, Praveen Chithravel in triple jump, Annu Rani in javelin throw, and Tejaswin Shankar in decathlon. Vithya Ramraj is competing in the
400m hurdles and 4x400m relay.
Two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra is not competing in the Championships, having recently taken part in the Doha Diamond League and the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Poland.
In his absence, young javelin throwers Sachin Yadav and Yashvir Singh will lead India’s charge in the event. The Games will conclude on Saturday.
India had won 27 medals in the 2023 edition in Bangkok, including six gold.
