Amit Phangal in 49kg, Kavinder Bisht in 52kg and Gaurav Bidhuri in 56kg category have entered in the quarterfinals of 19th World Boxing Championships being held in Hamburg.

While Amit stunned seventh seed Carlos Quipo of Ecuador, Gaurav got the better of Ukrainian Mykola Butsenko in a pre-quarterfinal bout. Kavinder notched up a remarkable 3-2 victory over Algeria's two-time world medallist Mohamed Flissi to make the last eight stage. Both Kavinder and Gaurav are debutants at the

However, Shiva thapa, seeded fifth in the lightweight 60kg category, bowed out without exchanging a single blow, forced to give a walkover after being laid low by food poisoning and high fever. Shiva had won a bronze medal at the 2015 World Championships in Doha.

Manoj Kumar of 69kg crashed out from the tournament. Third seed and 2011 World Championships bronze-medallist Vikas Krishan of 75kg was also ousted after a second-round loss.
