Ajit Agarkar to step down, BCCI to decide new chief selector after October 4

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia on Wednesday said the board has "sufficient time" to decide on the next chairman of the men's selection committee as Ajit Agarkar's three-year tenure comes to an end on October 4.

Agarkar has already informed the BCCI that he does not wish to seek an extension to his contract, bringing his stint as chairman of the senior men's selection committee towards an end.

The former India all-rounder conveyed his decision to the board on September 18, with the BCCI subsequently authorising its office-bearers to take a call on the future of the selection committee.

Saikia, however, said the board is in no hurry to announce



Agarkar's successor and will take a decision after the incumbent's contract expires.

"As far as Ajit Agarkar is concerned, his tenure is going to be over on 4th of October and we have sufficient time till 4th," Saikia told PTI Videos.

"We are going to take a decision regarding the vacant position which will be there after 4th of October. Once any decision is taken by BCCI, we will definitely announce it in public domain," he added.

Agarkar took over as chairman of the senior men's selection committee in July 2023, succeeding Chetan Sharma. His tenure has included India's T20 World Cup triumph in 2024 and the Champions Trophy title in 2025.
