The Bangladesh government made a rather bizarre move after they boycotted the T20 World Cup 2026 co-hosted by India and Bangladesh, with the shooting contingent reportedly approved to travel to India to take part in the Asian Rifle and Pistol Shooting Championship in New Delhi, scheduled to take place from February 2 to 14, later next month.
As per the Daily Sun, a Bangladesh-based news outlet, the Youth and Sports Ministry cleared the shooting contingent to compete, despite the government having security concerns with regards to the Bangladesh national
cricket team and their travel to India for their scheduled games in India.
“The Bangladesh team consists of just one athlete and one coach, making it a very small group. In addition, the organisers have assured us that there will be no security issues,” Youth and Sports Secretary Md Mahbub-ul-Alam was quoted as saying.
“The event will be held indoors within a protected area, so we do not anticipate any security concerns. After considering all aspects, the government approved the shooting team’s travel," he added.
