India's campaign at the Malaysia Open Super 750 came to an end on Friday after in-form HS Prannoy crashed out in the men's singles quarter-final. Prannoy lost to 7th seed Jonathan Christie of Indonesia in straight games as his impressive run came to a disappointing end in Kuala Lumpur.

Prannoy lost 18-21, 16-21 to Christie in 44 minutes in the quarter-final, failing to continue the winning momentum that he had managed in the Malaysia Open. It was the third straight defeat for Prannoy against Christie and the second in 2022 after a straight-games defeat at the Swiss Open in March.

Prannoy was in good form as he defeated 3rd seed Chou Tien Chen on Thursday after his

first-round win over local shuttler Daren Liew.

It has been a good few months for Prannoy on the tour as the Indian shuttler was an integral part of the historic Thomas Cup victory following which he reached the semi-final of the Indonesia Open Super 1000 tournament.

Earlier in the day, two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, seeded seventh, squandered a game lead to lose 13-21 21-15 21-13 to the second seed Tai Tzu, a silver medallist at the Tokyo Olympics.

By virtue of the win, the Chinese Taipei shuttler extended her domination over the Indian ace, leading 16-5 on a head-to-head record. Sindhu has now lost six matches on the trot against Tai Tzu.
