In tennis, debutant Andrey Rublev registered his first ATP Finals victory in a dead rubber against third seed Dominic Thiem, who was already assured a place in semi-finals in London yesterday.

Austrian Thiem could not recover from a slow start as Russian Rublev won 6-2, 7-5. Thiem reached the last four by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas and Spanish second seed Rafael

Nadal.

Tsitsipas is taking on Nadal in a straight fight for a place in the semi-finals. Thiem will find out on Friday if he plays world number one Djokovic or Germany's Alexander Zverev in Saturday's semi-finals.

Nadal or Tsitsipas know their opponent will be Russian fourth seed Daniil Medvedev, who clinched top spot by beating Djokovic on Wednesday.
