One more person, a 38 year old man has been confirmed to be infected with the Mpox virus in Kerala.
Sources said the man, who returned to Kochi from abroad, has been admitted to a private hospital for treatment. Tests of his body fluids confirmed the case to be positive.
Meanwhile, State Health Minister Veena George convened a high level meeting in Thiruvananthapuram to take stock of the situation. The Health Department has prepared the contact list of the infected person and has strengthened preventive measures. She said those with symptoms should
take care to ensure that the virus is not spread to others.
The government has set up isolation facilities in all the 14 districts of the state.This is the second case of MPox virus to be reported in the state this month. On the 18th of September, a man admitted to the Manjeri Medical College hospital in Malappuram district was confirmed positive for the virus.
The World Health Organisation has declared Mpox to be a public health emergency of international concern.
