A recent study reveals that Indian children under five years of age are spending an average of 2.2 hours daily in front of screens, which is double the recommended safe limit. Experts warn that this excessive screen time can negatively impact brain development, cognitive skills, language development, and social skills.

The report highlights the challenges parents face in limiting screen time and suggests

creating tech-free zones and offline playtimes as potential solutions. A meta-analysis of 10 studies involving 2,857 children has linked excessive screen time to slow cognitive development, language delays, and poor social skills.
Experts recommend zero screen time for children up to seven years old, emphasising the importance of physical experiences and engagement with the real world during early developmental stages.
