Mumbai: Maharashtra yesterday reported 796 new cases of COVID-19, taking the total number of infections to 66,37,221. According to the State’s Public Health Department, 952 people have recovered from the infection in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 64,85,290. The death toll has risen to 1,41,049 with 24 people succumbing to the infection. The number of active cases in Maharashtra stands at 7,209.

Mumbai reported 220 new cases of COVID-19, taking the total number of cases in Mumbai to 7,63,206. The city reported 216 recoveries and one death yesterday. The number of active cases stand at 1,923, highest in the state followed by Pune, which has



1,870 active cases and Thane, which has 1,057 active cases.

Since the identification and classification of Omicron as a ‘Variant of Concern’, Maharashtra has screened 861 international passengers, out of which three have been found positive. All the three samples have been sent for genomic sequencing. Additionally, field surveillance of all international passengers who have arrived since 1st November is currently underway. 

Maharashtra’s Public Health Department has informed that a total of 28 samples from both airport and field surveillance have been sent for genome sequencing.
