Maharashtra records 889 new Covid-19 cases

Mumbai: Maharashtra, one of the worst-hit states by the coronavirus pandemic, reported only 889 cases of coronavirus in last 24 hours. This is the lowest daily jump in infections since the first wave of the pandemic in March last year.

According to state Health Department data 14 districts in Maharashtra reported zero cases in last 24 hours while 12 districts reported less than 10 infections. The state logged 12 Covid related deaths in the same period - the lowest in 34 weeks.

The fatalities were reported from Mumbai, Thane, Pune and Ratnagiri only. With 1,586 patients being discharged yesterday,



the state has an active caseload of 23,184 infections.84,460 Covid tests were conducted in 24 hours, down by nearly 18%.

The state's positivity rate now stands at 1%. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that AY 4 variant of Corona has not been infiltrated in Maharashtra and proper instructions will be given to the health department to prevent such possibility.

He also said that vaccination will be expedited in Maharashtra till Diwali. Mr. Tope informed that some other departments are being enlisted for speedy vaccination.
