Kerala continues to report surge in COVID cases as it confirms 22,414 new positive cases on Wednesday. The test positivity rate is 11.37 per cent at present. Over 1,97,092 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 108 deaths were also confirmed due to COVID today taking the total death toll to 17,211. Bringing respite, 19,478  people recovered from the Corona virus infection.  At present, a total of 1,76,048 people are undergoing COVID treatment in the State.

Meanwhile, the State Government announced revised Covid lockdown guidelines in the State Assembly yesterday. State Health  Minister Veena George announced the altered covid plan and lockdown exemptions in Kerala as per the new norms. The Government has decided to impose Covid restrictions based on the number of Covid cases per thousand people rather than the present method based on TPR



figures. 

According to the new covid plan based, if more than 10 people per thousand population, test covid positive in an area within a week, a triple lockdown will be imposed in that area. 

Shops and commercial establishments will remain open for six days in a week and allowed to function till 9 pm. Only 20 people will be allowed for marriage and funeral ceremonies. Places of worship and shrines can only accommodate a maximum of 40 people. Malls will not be allowed to open. Only parcel services are allowed in hotels. For this, restaurants and eateries can be opened till 9.30 pm. No more complete lockdown will be imposed on Saturdays and there will be no lockdown on upcoming two Sundays in view of  Onam and Independence Day. The new covid guidelines and exemptions will come into effect from today.
