Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has publicly extended his support to singer Qazi Touqeer, who is currently participating in the reality show Bigg Boss. Abdullah stated that he wants Qazi to win the show for Kashmir and confirmed that he would cast his vote in his support.
In an interview with Shubhankar Mishra for his YouTube podcast, Abdullah revealed whether he was following the programme due to the presence of a contestant from the state. The Chief Minister immediately named Qazi and acknowledged tracking his journey.
Expressing pride in the achievements of the local youth, Abdullah said, "Kashmiri youth is winning Ranji Trophy, now if Qazi wins Bigg Boss trophy then it would be great." He added, "I have seen him at a few concerts. He sings well."
Reflecting on Qazi’s
earlier rise to fame, Mishra pointed out how the singer had won Sony TV’s hit reality show Fame Gurukul in 2005, a season that also featured singer Arijit Singh. Recalling the moment Qazi beat singer Arijit Singh on Fame Gurukul, Abdullah said, "Yes, I remember that very well. All of a sudden, he won and nobody had any clue that this was going to happen."
The Chief Minister also revealed that he stays updated on the developments inside the Bigg Boss house through news reports. "I read in the newspaper. He has been involved in a few fights inside the house as well. I think a few days back Salman had also objected to him saying certain things to a female contestant," he added.
Upon being informed by the host that the show's outcome relies on public voting, Abdullah reaffirmed his stance, and said, "Then, I will vote for him."
