Veteran actor Saeed Jaffrey dies at 86

Veteran actor Saeed Jaffrey, known for his roles in several western and Indian productions died on Sunday.

The news of the 86-year-old’s death was shared by his niece Shaheen Aggarwal on Twitter. She posted: “Today, a generation of Jaffreys has passed away. Saeed Jaffrey has joined his brothers and sister and is rejoicing in the lap of his Heavenly Father, eternally. The entire Jaffrey Family bids you, adieu, you beautiful, beautiful man See you in heaven!”

Attenborough’s Gandhi, Biju Ram in Peter Duffell’s TV mini-series The Far Pavilions, Advocate Hamidullah in Merchant-Ivory’s A Passage To India, Mir Roshan Ali in Satyajit Ray’s Shatranj Ke Khiladi and Suri in Shekhar Kapoor’s Masoom. He was part of over 100 films in British, Hollywood and Bollywood productions.

He is survived by his wife Jennifer Jaffrey. The actor was earlier married to actress and celebrity chef Madhur Jaffrey with whom he parted ways in 1965. They have three daughters Meera, Zia, and Sakina.
