The trailer of director Siddharth P Malhotra's courtroom drama, Ikka, featuring actors Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna was released on June 29. The film explores themes of morality, ethics, truth and righteousness as Khanna's character equates the conflict with Ram-Raavan battle for justice.
Netflix's upcoming film, Ikka, brings together a legal case, family conflict and questions of personal conviction. The trailer introduces Arjun Mehra, played by Deol, as a lawyer known for his principles and belief in justice. In one scene, he says, “Hum court mein jeetne ke liye nahi, haq ke liye ladte hai (I don't fight cases to win, I fight for people's rights).” The story turns when he is made to defend Shauryamann Gaur, played by Khanna, in a high-profile attempted murder case. What begins in court starts to affect his beliefs, relationships and the life he has built.
Actor Tillotama Shome plays Madhura Banerjee, a public prosecutor whose pursuit of justice puts her against Arjun. Dia Mirza plays Avantika, Arjun’s wife, who is shown trying to protect her family as the case begins to affect their lives. The film hints at courtroom exchanges, emotional conflict and shifting loyalties as the characters face difficult choices. The trailer ends
with Khanna telling Deol, "Vaah Ikka, itnaa kuchh karne ke baad bhii duniya tujhe Ram maanti hai aur mujhe Raavan (Woah Ikka, inspite of all this world views you as Ram and me as Raavan)."
Speaking about the film, Deol said, “Ikka is not just a courtroom drama. It is a story about family, relationships, and the difficult choices life forces you to make. Arjun is a man who believes in doing what is right, but circumstances push him to question everything around him. His pain, his anger, his silence, and his fight for what he believes in are what drew me to this character."
"This film is also very special because it marks my first direct-to-streaming release. I’m happy that through Netflix, audiences across India and the world will be able to experience Ikka," he added.
Akshaye Khanna did not attend the trailer launch in person, but sent a voice message for the media and fans. He said, “Kuchh mulaqatein stage par nahi ho sakti. Agar ho gayi, to zalzalaa aa sakta hai! Isiliye IKKA aur main ab sirf Netflix ki screen par milenge, July 10 ko. Taiyaar rehna (Some meetings can't be on stage. If it happens, hell will break out. So, Ikka and I will meet you all on Netflix's screen on July 10. Be ready)."
