Ramayana Part Two is 50% shot, could have been a 10-part saga: Ranbir Kapoor

Actor Ranbir Kapoor has said director Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana: Part One is so vast that it could have been told across 10 films, even as he revealed that Ramayana: Part Two is already 50% shot. Kapoor, who plays Lord Rama, shared the update as the makers prepare for the release of the first instalment on Diwali 2026.

In an interview with The Direct, Ranbir highlighted that condensing the Hindu epic into two films was a major challenge. Reflecting on the adaptation, he praised Nitesh Tiwari and the writers for shaping the story into a two-part saga while retaining its emotional core and themes.

He said, "To be honest, to tell Ramayana, you probably need a 10-part movie, but the kind of conciseness in two parts was very hard."

Sharing an update on the sequel, Ranbir said, "We are already 50% down shooting Part Two even before the first part is released, because it is a continuing story."

He added that Ramayana: Part Two will be "even larger" and "more



entertaining", emphasising that actor Sunny Deol's Lord Hanuman is set to have a much more prominent role in the second instalment, which is due on Diwali 2027. The film also features Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, and Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha.

Ranbir also rejected the idea that Ramayana needed a major reinterpretation for contemporary audiences.

"I don't think a story like Ramayana needs that. I think the text has stayed over 4000 years. Lord Rama has been the conscious gatekeeper of millions of people around the world, and I think everything that it talks about courage, good over evil, rightfulness, forgiveness, compassion, ego. It is a life lesson," the actor added.

Ranbir's comments underline the scale of the two-part Ramayana, with the first film set for Diwali 2026 and the second scheduled for Diwali 2027. He said the epic's scope could fill far more films, even as the team moves ahead with an adaptation designed as a continuing two-part story.
