As Karan Johar’s debut directorial Kuch Kuch Hota Hai marked 28 years of release on October 16, actor Kajol revisited her character Anjali Sharma by sharing a nostalgic picture. The photo shows her wearing the iconic red jacket from the 1998 film which also featured actors Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji in crucial roles.
In her Instagram post, Kajol shared a picture of herself in a red jacket and short hair, echoing the tomboyish aesthetic of her character from the 1998 romantic drama. Her caption read, "Can magic ever be recreated? Here’s Anjali a couple of years later
(sic)."
Released on October 16, 1998, apart from Shah Rukh, Kajol and Rani, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai also featured actor Salman Khan in an extended cameo. The film, which explored friendship and unrequited love, became a major box-office success and remains a prominent pop-culture reference point for late-1990s Hindi cinema.
While Kajol’s portrayal of Anjali’s transition from a college student to a soft-spoken woman anchored the narrative's second half, her initial tomboy persona — defined by dungarees, headbands, and short hair — became a widely recognised visual trope of the era.
