Pop sensation Taylor Swift contributed USD1,00,000 to a GoFundMe campaign supporting Lilah, a two-year-old diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer. The donation followed a viral video posted by Lilah's mother, Katelynn Smoot, showing Lilah engaging with Swift's music.
The campaign, launched in March to help cover Lilah's treatment, received a major boost from Swift's involvement and message. The family's appeal and Lilah's connection with Swift quickly captured public attention, leading to widespread support online.
According to Rolling Stone, Lilah was diagnosed after suffering a seizure. Katelynn Smoot explained that Lilah had a "very rare aggressive form of brain cancer." Treatment has included surgery, chemotherapy, and extended hospital stays.
The family wrote: "After [an MRI and LP], she will start 6 weeks of proton radiation, where our family will
have to travel to [Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia] for her to receive. We will be a few hundred miles away from home. All the donations we receive will help us with travel expenses and paying bills as we are still out of work while Lilah is in treatment."
The story gained traction after Katelynn posted a video in which Lilah points at the screen and says, "That's my friend!" while watching a Taylor Swift video. Katelynn added that her daughter called the singer her "friend" while watching a video of Swift on her iPad. The post resonated with many, with Swifties and the public offering supportive messages.
Taylor Swift left a message with her donation: "Sending the biggest hug to my friend, Lilah! Love, Taylor." Her GoFundMe contribution brought the family's fundraising total nearly USD 60,000 over their original goal and prompted further contributions from fans worldwide.
