The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Shwetambari Bhatt, wife of filmmaker Vikram Bhatt, in connection with an alleged Rs 30 crore fraud case.
Shwetambari and Vikram Bhatt were arrested by the Rajasthan Police in the case. Hearing their bail plea, a bench comprising Chief Justice Suryakant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi questioned the Rajasthan Police over the grounds on which Shwetambari Bhatt and her daughter were made accused in the
matter.
The bench observed that provisions of criminal law cannot be used as a tool for recovery of money. It issued notice to the Rajasthan government on the bail petitions filed by Vikram Bhatt and Shwetambari Bhatt, directing the state to file its response within a week.
The court ordered that both Vikram Bhatt and his wife be released immediately on interim bail upon furnishing bail bonds. The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for Thursday.
