Actor and politician Hema Malini has addressed reports of a rift between her family and Dharmendra’s first family following the veteran actor’s death, dismissing the speculation as fabricated. The actor said the families share a close and united bond despite years of public scrutiny surrounding her marriage to Dharmendra.
In an interview with E Times, Hema addressed the reports of tensions between the two families after Dharmendra’s death. She called the claims untrue and insisted that the families remain “very united”. “Ours is a very united family. That's all I can say. We are all happy with each other. Please don't believe everything that is created through AI,” she said.
The 77-year-old actor also reflected on her relationship with Dharmendra and the criticism they faced over their marriage. She said they never allowed public opinion to dictate their lives and chose to focus on the love and understanding they shared.
“We never bothered about any of that. We lived our lives
according to us, not for people who wanted to criticise or judge us. We lived with true love. Right from the beginning, we knew we were meant for each other. Nobody could change that,” she added.
In the end, the Sholay actor became emotional while remembering Dharmendra, whom she described as her “wonderful soulmate”. She recalled the unwavering support he gave her throughout their life together, particularly for her passion for dance.
“I got such a wonderful soulmate. I have memories of him that I will cherish till the end of my life. He supported me in everything I did. He would say, ‘Go ahead. Don’t stop. Continue with your dance.’ He believed dance was spiritual, and that it brought me happiness and kept me healthy. If I am doing anything today, it is because of his support and strength. Now I miss that. He is not there and this void can never be filled. I think of him every minute. People ask whether I have processed the loss, but I don’t think grief ever goes away. I miss him so much,” Hema Malini said.
