Chengalpet family court has ordered Vijay and Sangeetha to appear on June 15 in relation to their ongoing divorce case. The proceedings are a result of a petition filed by Sangeetha in February, in which she alleged that Vijay had been involved in an extramarital affair. The petition was listed for April 20. During the hearing, Judge Sasikala heard the case and adjourned it to mid-June.

According to the divorce petition filed in February, Sangeetha claimed that Vijay had an adulterous relationship with a female actor, a fact she discovered in 2021. Despite assurances from Vijay to end the relationship, the petition alleges that he continued without any remorse.

The document further states that Vijay excluded Sangeetha from his social and professional circles while continuing to travel abroad and attend public events with the female actor.

The plea also highlighted that the actor frequently shared photographs of these outings on social media, which Vijay neither denied nor objected to. Sangeetha contended that these posts caused repeated humiliation

to her and their two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha. Additionally, the petition accused Vijay of withdrawing facilities previously available to Sangeetha and imposing financial restrictions, including limiting her free movement.

Sangeetha further alleged that Vijay's ongoing conduct and the controversies on social media in 2024 subjected her to severe mental trauma, claiming that their marriage has effectively broken down and exists only on paper. She mentioned that the relationship is beyond reconciliation, bringing her nothing but mental agony, indignity, humiliation, and suffering. These claims form the basis of her grounds for divorce under Section 27(1)(a) and 27(1)(d) of the Special Marriage Act.

Sangeetha filed for divorce, seeking to end her marriage of 27 years to Vijay.

Currently, Vijay is busy campaigning as Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections, scheduled to take place on April 23. He is also awaiting the release of Jana Nayagan, which has been stuck in a censor board limbo since January.
