Actor Govardhan Asrani, popularly known as Asrani, known for his comic timings, died in Mumbai on Monday after a prolonged illness. His last rites were performed at Santacruz Crematorium.
A versatile actor, who also had directorial stints, Asrani was admitted to Bharatiya Arogya Nidhi Hospital four days ago. He was originally a resident of Jaipur. His family shared the news only after his funeral was held at the Santacruz Crematorium.
"Asrani sahab was admitted to Bharatiya Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Juhu four days ago. From what the doctors told
us, there was fluid (water) accumulation in his lungs. He died today, October 20, around 3:30 pm. The last rites have already been completed," Asrani's personal assistant, Babubhai, said.
When asked why the family decided to do the funeral so swiftly, he shared that the actor wanted to go in peace, and had told his wife Manju to not make his death into an event. "This is why the family only spoke about his death after the funeral was conducted."
The family might issue a statement soon, while a prayer meeting is also being planned.
