Armaan Khan, son of renowned Hindustani classical vocalist Ustad Rashid Khan, has cancelled his scheduled concerts in Bangladesh amid growing unrest following the death of Sharif Osman bin Hadi, convener of the Inqilab platform.

Protests broke out across Bangladesh on Thursday night after news of bin Hadi’s death surfaced, with incidents of violence reported in Dhaka and several other cities. The situation escalated rapidly, with reports of attacks on newspaper offices and the well-known cultural organisation Chhayanaut.

Armaan Khan was scheduled to perform in Bangladesh on December 25. However, citing safety concerns and the deteriorating law-and-order situation, the musician decided to cancel his appearances.

Speaking about the decision, Khan said he was relieved to be in India as events

unfolded. “It is good that I am in India on Christmas Eve. I was supposed to travel to Bangladesh for my performance on the 25th,” he said.

Expressing concern over the developments, he added, “I never thought such a situation would happen in Bangladesh. All artists, especially those with a significant fanbase, must take a stand now.”

The ongoing unrest has raised serious concerns within the cultural fraternity, particularly after media houses and cultural institutions became targets of violence. Performers and organisers have expressed apprehension about the safety of public events amid the instability.

Commenting on the broader impact of the situation, Armaan Khan said, “What is happening today with the Hindus in Bangladesh should not happen. People should think about humanity before religion.”
