Director Bharat Shrinate's 'Udaipur Files' released in theatres across India on Friday, August 8, after going through several controversies and legal hurdles.

The film is based on the Kanhaiyalal murder case that took place in 2022, which shook the whole country. Initially, when the teaser of the film came out, Kanhaiyalal’s family objected and filed a petition in the Rajasthan High Court, due to which a temporary stay was imposed on the film. They said that the film was causing them mental agony and it could spoil social harmony. But in July 2025, the Supreme Court lifted the stay, saying that making a

film on a true incident is not illegal, as long as it does not violate constitutional limits.

The film was released today after getting clearance from the Censor Board. On the very first day, the film received a positive reaction from the audience. The movie-goers said that the film was a mirror of truth which every Indian must watch. The audience stated that they felt the pain, which was not just a murder but the result of society's silence. They admitted that 'Udaipur Files' made them witness the truth. The audience shared that they saw Kanhaiyalal's death not just as news but as a human being's suffering.
