Rapper-singer Badshah has issued a public apology after facing criticism over the lyrics and visual representation of his recent song Tateeree. The apology comes in response to widespread backlash, particularly from members of the Haryana community, who expressed that the song's content was offensive and disrespectful towards women.
On Saturday, the 40-year-old addressed the concerns directly. He called himself the "son of Haryana" and urged those hurt to forgive him.
In a video statement shared on Instagram on Saturday, Badshah recognised that his song had caused hurt to many. He said, "My new song Tateeree has been released, and I see that the message conveyed by a part of the song and its visual representation has hurt many people,
especially the people of my Haryana, and their sentiments (sic)."
Badshah further emphasised his connection to Haryana, saying, "First of all, I want to say that I myself am from Haryana. Those who know me know that my language, food habits, lifestyle, my identity is from Haryana. I am a very proud Haryanvi. (sic)"
Badshah issued an apology as a direct response to the outrage. He said, "If anyone has been hurt by this, I wholeheartedly apologise to you all. I hope that you will forgive me, considering me a son of Haryana, your own son. (sic)"
In addition to the public apology, the rapper confirmed that the song would be withdrawn from all platforms. "The song is being taken off from everywhere, (sic)" read the caption of his post.
