Border 2 arrived in cinemas on January 23, and quickly made an impact at the box office, collecting over Rs 5 crore from morning shows alone. The film's release coincides with the extended Republic Day weekend, contributing to its promising start. Audiences at early screenings expressed appreciation for a touching tribute to the late legendary actor Dharmendra by his son, Sunny Deol, who introduced himself in the credits as "Sunny Deol (Dharmendra ji ka beta) - Dharmendra's son."
This is Sunny's first major release since Dharmendra's death in November, just before the veteran actor's 90th birthday. The credits tribute marked an emotional moment for those familiar with the father-son legacy in Indian cinema. The film features an ensemble cast including Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, adding star power to the war
drama.
During the launch of Ghar Kab Aaoge, Sunny reflected on the inspiration behind the Border series: "I did Border (1997) because I watched my father's film Haqeeqat (1964), I loved it deeply. I was a child then. So, when I became an actor, I decided to make a film similar to my father's movie," he said.
Deol added, "I spoke to JP Dutta, and we decided to make a film on the Longewala subject, which is extremely close to our hearts and lives in the hearts of all of you."
He has often spoken about the unexpected influence of the original Border on young viewers. "Wherever I go, I never knew that we would give so much confidence to so many young people that they would choose to join the armed forces. Whenever I meet them, they tell me that after watching my film, they decided to join the army," Deol said.
