Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol unveiled a bronze statue at Leicester Square in London on December 4, 2025, celebrating 30 years since the release of the landmark Bollywood film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ). The statue, depicting the actors in a signature pose from the 1995 classic, is the first of its kind from an Indian film to be installed at this prominent location. The unveiling reunited the film’s stars and highlighted DDLJ’s enduring influence and its connection to London, where many scenes were filmed.
The statue now forms part of the Scenes in the Square movie trail, featuring icons from global cinema on Leicester Square’s eastern terrace, outside
the Odeon cinema. This recognition comes as Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge continues to be celebrated worldwide for its cultural and cinematic impact since its release on October 20, 1995.
The film’s storyline follows Raj and Simran, two young non-resident Indians who meet and fall in love during a European holiday. Leicester Square and other London landmarks featured in the film, reinforcing its international appeal.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge has inspired adaptations such as the musical Come Fall In Love: The DDLJ Musical, scheduled to premiere at Manchester Opera House in May, underlining the film’s ongoing relevance in popular culture.
