Legendary singer Asha Bhosle was cremated with full state honours in Mumbai on Monday, as political leaders, family members and thousands of fans gathered to bid her a final farewell.

Bhosle died on Sunday at 92 due to multi-organ failure at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. Her cremation took place at the Shivaji Park crematorium, where her son, Anand Bhosle, lit the pyre and performed the final rites in a solemn atmosphere.

A defining voice in Indian music for over seven decades, Bhosle was known for her versatility and unforgettable songs. On Monday, thousands of her fans joined the funeral procession as her body was brought to the cremation ground from her residence



in Lower Parel, where Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid his last respects.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, MNS chief Raj Thackeray, Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC and former Union Minsiter Shushil Kumar Shinde were also present. Bollywood celebrities Aamir Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Ramesh Sippy, Riteish Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi and cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and Mohammad Shiraj were also there to bid a final farewell to the singer.

Asha Bhosle, fondly known as Asha tai, was honoured with several prestigious awards, including the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honour, and the Maharashtra Bhushan for her immense contribution to Indian music.
