Ranveer Singh is experiencing a remarkable phase in his career as his recent film Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, nears the Rs 600 crore nett mark at the box office. Amidst this commercial success, Singh has reportedly made a strategic decision to step away from Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s much-anticipated Don 3, choosing instead to focus on other projects.
As per a report published in Pinkvilla, a source close to the development shared, "With Dhurandhar's massive success, Ranveer is very clear about the kind of films he wants to do next. He is keen to collaborate with filmmakers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and Atlee, and at the same time, he doesn't want to be seen in back-to-back gangster films, especially since Dhurandhar is already established in that space. That's one of the reasons he has asked Jai Mehta to pre-pone the shoot of Pralay. Ranveer is keen on fast-tracking the project and bringing it on floors sooner than planned."
The upcoming film, tentatively titled Pralay, is supported by Applause Entertainment and will feature a zombie theme. The story centres on a man's efforts to save his family in extremely challenging circumstances. Singh's decision to prioritise this film marks a shift in his approach to choosing roles, with an emphasis on diversity and collaboration with acclaimed
directors.
As Singh reportedly chooses to step away from consecutive gangster roles, he seems to be focusing on aligning his schedule to accommodate new genres. The same source explained, "Now that he has prioritised other projects over Don 3, Singh is now personally involved in aligning dates and schedules for Jai Mehta's film to ensure the film moves quickly," highlighting Singh's hands-on involvement in managing the production timeline of Pralay.
The change in priorities follows the exceptional performance of Dhurandhar, which continues to attract audiences weeks after its release. Singh's decision to adjust his upcoming projects appears to be a direct response to both the film's success and his desire to explore different types of cinema.
The report further quoted an insider commenting on the timing of these decisions, saying, "Right after the release of Dhurandhar, Ranveer was scheduled to begin preparations for Don 3. However, given the current situation, the film is now pushed."
While Singh reportedly steps back from Don 3, preparations for the movie are ongoing. Farhan Akhtar's team earlier finalised Kriti Sanon as the female lead. The project is expected to be made on a large scale, with plans for filming across multiple locations in Europe. The film marks a new era in the Don universe.
