Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has become the centre of controversy on social media after his appearance at the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. While he won applause for his tribute to Thalaivar Rajinikanth, the actor also sparked criticism for his reaction to Kantara and his impression of a character from the film, ahead of his upcoming release Dhurandhar.
The event was attended by Kantara director-actor Rishab Shetty, and Ranveer took a moment to praise the franchise. Referring to Shetty’s performance in Kantara Chapter 1, he described
Guliga Daiva’s sister Chaundi as a “female ghost” and went on to mimic the character on stage. With crossed eyes and his tongue out, he performed a version of his signature “primordial scream,” leaving Shetty in splits.
Ranveer further joked from the stage, pointing at Shetty, “Anybody here want to see me in Kantara 3? Tell this guy.”
While the moment drew laughter at the venue, the video of the segment went viral online, leading to severe backlash. Many viewers felt his portrayal was insensitive and disrespectful toward sacred cultural beliefs.
