The Bollywood film Dhurandhar has been declared tax-free in the Union Territory of Ladakh following an exceptional box office performance and significant audience engagement both in India and overseas. The announcement was made by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh through an official statement on X, confirming the exemption of the film from entertainment tax throughout the region. The move marks another notable achievement in the film’s ongoing theatrical run since its release in early December.

Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar is produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios. The film features Ranveer Singh in the lead role, supported by an ensemble cast including Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, and Arjun Rampal. The story centres on large-scale espionage operations inspired by real events, highlighting covert intelligence activities.

According to the Office of the Lt Governor, the decision to make the production tax-free is set against the backdrop of robust commercial success and strong international and domestic viewership. The statement noted that this move is expected to further strengthen the film’s position at the box office and stimulate continued interest from audiences.

The film, which opened to strong numbers, continues to attract viewers, maintaining its momentum weeks after its premiere. Its high-octane action and

portrayal of intelligence operations have contributed to widespread interest. The production has also generated anticipation for a sequel, scheduled for release in March.

The official communication highlighted the significance of Ladakh’s landscapes in the film. "Shot extensively in the region, the film spotlights Ladakh’s cinematic landscapes, signalling strong support for filmmakers and reinforcing the UT’s push to emerge as a preferred," the official tweet read.

This recognition is viewed by industry analysts as a sign of Ladakh’s growing importance as a filming location for major Bollywood productions. The film’s use of local scenery has drawn attention to the region’s cinematic potential, which officials hope will attract more projects in the future.

Presented by Jio Studios, a B62 Studios production, Dhurandhar is credited with setting new records for box office revenue and audience turnout since its early December release. The involvement of a prominent cast and high production values have been cited as key factors in its commercial performance.

With the film’s successful run and the upcoming sequel, the tax-free status in Ladakh adds to the milestones achieved by Dhurandhar. The decision aligns with ongoing efforts to promote Ladakh as a destination for filmmakers and further supports the region’s aspirations within the Indian film industry.
