Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 gets bigger, Vijay Sethupathi joins cast: Report

Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is steadily turning into one of Tamil cinema’s most anticipated big-ticket films, with major stars from across industries joining the project. After Meghana Raj Sarja’s inclusion, the latest reports suggest that Vijay Sethupathi has now come on board.

According to reports on social media, Vijay Sethupathi has been roped in to play an important role in Jailer 2. The actor has reportedly joined the Goa schedule of the film. While an official confirmation from the makers is still awaited, the news has already gone viral among fans.

Jailer 2, the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer, marks Rajinikanth’s return as the fan-favourite ‘Tiger’ Muthuvel Pandian. Produced by Kalanithi Maran, the sequel marks the return of original cast members such as Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, and Mirnaa, besides cameo stars Shiva Rajkumar and Mohanlal. Additionally, the makers have brought in major stars such as SJ Suryah, Mithun



Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, and Santhanam. Reports now say that Vijay Sethupathi is also part of the cast. With each new addition, the project continues to grow in scale and prestige.

This isn’t the first time Rajinikanth and Vijay Sethupathi have appeared together on the screen. The duo previously shared space in Karthik Subbaraj’s 2019 action drama Petta, also produced by Sun Pictures. The film featured a star-studded ensemble including Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Sasikumar, Simran, Trisha, Megha Akash, Malavika Mohanan, Mahendran, and Bobby Simha. If the reports about Sethupathi joining Jailer 2 are true, it will be interesting to see the two actors reunite once again on screen.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth was last seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie, co-starring Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Upendra, and Aamir Khan. The film grossed over Rs 500 crore worldwide and stands as the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of 2025.
