Odia composer and singer Abhijit Majumdar died on Sunday January 25, at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar. He was 54. Hospital authorities said he had been undergoing treatment for more than four months for multiple chronic ailments and developed severe complications due to refractory septic shock caused by an infection.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed grief over Majumdar’s death and paid tribute on social media. He described the composer’s death as an irreparable loss to Odisha’s music, cinema and cultural landscape, and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.
Majumdar was admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar on September 4, last year, where he was
treated for hypertension, hypothyroidism and chronic liver disease. His condition required prolonged intensive care, after which he was shifted to the medicine ward on November 10 for continued treatment.
On January 23, he developed a fresh infection accompanied by fever. Despite sustained medical care, his health deteriorated further, and he failed to recover from the resulting septic shock.
Sharing details of the final moments, AIIMS officials said, “The Odia singer suffered a cardiac arrest at 7:43 am. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was immediately initiated as per Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) protocol. Despite all efforts, he was clinically declared dead at 9:02 am,” as per PTI.
