O' Romeo gets A rating; CBFC mutes words, trims bloodshed scenes: Report

Shahid Kapoor’s new film O' Romeo is set for release after being granted an ‘A’ certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification. Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, it is Kapoor’s fourth collaboration with the director and his second consecutive movie to receive an adult-only rating after Kabir Singh.

The certification was reportedly awarded on February 11, following mandated changes and reductions.

According to a Bollywood Hungama report, the censor board required the film’s makers to amend several dialogues and scenes before approval. The word ‘Item’ was allegedly replaced with



‘Kumari’. In some scenes, a word was muted and an ‘inappropriate’ term was deleted, as per the report.

These changes were implemented to comply with certification guidelines. The board did not ask for any cuts to the romantic or intimate scenes.

The film’s violent content received particular attention. One close-up shot of a throat-cutting was reportedly reduced by 20%, amounting to three seconds of footage. The report suggested that the additional cuts included two seconds each from a bloodshed scene involving a head injury and a shot showing blood squirting onto a woman’s face.
