The Madras High Court has granted interim relief to actor and Rajya Sabha MP Kamal Haasan, restraining unidentified individuals and platforms from commercially exploiting or circulating morphed and AI-generated content using his likeness, while clarifying that satire and lawful creative expression remain protected.

Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy passed an interim John Doe

order after hearing submissions from senior advocate Satish Parasaran, who flagged unauthorised merchandising and the circulation of deepfakes and morphed visuals featuring the actor.

The court noted concerns over the misuse of Haasan’s name, image, initials and other identifiable attributes, and its potential impact on his dignity and commercial interests.
