Actor Kartik Aaryan has approached the Bombay High Court to protect his personality rights from alleged unauthorised commercial use online. He has filed an intellectual property (IP) suit against several Indian and international e-commerce and social media platforms, along with unidentified “John Doe” individuals accused of misusing his identity.
The plea states that his name, image and likeness are being used without permission on merchandise, ads and other digital content, violating
his publicity and privacy rights. Kartik has sought a permanent injunction to stop the defendants from using his photos, videos, voice or any other personal attributes for commercial purposes, including through AI tools and deepfakes.
The actor has also asked online platforms and authorities to remove such content and reveal the identities of those behind it. The case will be heard on April 9, when senior advocate Birendra Saraf is expected to seek urgent relief for Aaryan.
