Kantara row: Ranveer Singh to file revised apology in high court after objection

Actor Ranveer Singh has agreed to file a revised apology affidavit before the Karnataka High Court in connection with the Kantara mimicry row. The court on March 24 had asked the actor to file an apology and visit the Chamundi temple in Karnataka. However, the court didn't feel that the apology filed by the actor was "sincere."

During a hearing on Friday, Singh's counsel informed the court that a fresh apology would be submitted after consulting the complainant. The objection was specifically raised over the tone of the initial apology. According to Bar and Bench, the Dhurandhar actor said in his apology that he was "not aware of the sensitivities" because he has been "raised in a Sindhi household in Mumbai." The actor further conveyed "his deepest regret" and also wrote to the court that he would visit the temple of the



deity in "due course to offer prayers and express devotion."

"I have filed an affidavit of apology. And I have undertaken in that affidavit that I will visit the temple as well. (The affidavit stated) on the date of the incident, even for a moment, I did not realise I offended the worshippers of the Daiva (sic)," read the affidavit.

The complainant, Prashanth Methal, told the court that Singh was repeatedly asked by Shetty not to mimic the deity, but continued to do so regardless. "Rishab Shetty (actor-director of Kantara) clearly told him (Singh) not to do it. There is no genuine remorse. Let them file a proper affidavit (sic)," Methal argued.

On Friday, Singh told the court that he was willing to reconsider and revise the contents of his apology in an effort to resolve the matter.
