Actor-director Satyajeet Puri shared an interesting anecdote about Dharmendra. He recalled the veteran actor's retort when the underworld allegedly tried to threaten him.
Puri, in an interview with Friday Talkies, stated how yesteryear's action-star dared the gangsters to beware of his "army from Punjab." He said, "At that time underworld was very strong. It was the time when if the underworld called some actor, they would get scared. But Dharamji and family were never scared from them. He would tell them, 'If you come, the whole Sahnewal will
come from Punjab. You have 10 people, but I have an army (sic). Ek bolunga aur truck bharke aayenge Punjab se ladne ke liye (If I say so, people by the truck-loads will arrive from Punjab to fight with me). Toh tu mere se panga na le (Don’t mess with me). And they never messed with Dharmendra'."
Dharmendra is known for his works in iconic classics such as 'Shola Aur Shabnam' (1961), 'Bandini' (1963), 'Haqeeqat' (1964), "Mera Gaon Mera Desh' (1971), 'Sholay' (1975), 'Chupke Chupke', 'Dream Girl' (1977), 'Shalimar' (1978) and others.
